ENGIE has been qualified in the first round of the tendering process for two renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia
ENGIE, through its subsidiary International Power SA, has been qualified in the first round of the tendering process for two renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia. ENGIE is among the 27 companies selected for a 300 MW solar photovoltaic project, and among the 24 companies selected for a 400 MW wind farm. The shortlisted companies have been selected from a total of 128 applications.
The 300 MW solar photovoltaic project will be developed in the Sakaka area in the northern Al Jouf Province. The 400 MW wind farm will be built in the Midyan coastal area in Tabuk Province, which is also in the north. Both projects will be backed by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), i.e. 25 years for Solar PV and 20 years for Wind. The request for proposal process will be launched on 17 April, on the occasion of the Saudi Arabia Renewable Energy Investment Forum, and is expected to close in July 2017.
These two projects are part of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) of the Saudi Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the total energy mix, targeting the generation of 3.45 GW of renewable energy by 2020 and of 9.5 GW by 2023, towards Vision 2030, the long term strategic plan of the Kingdom.
ENGIE wishes to further contribute to the development of renewable energies in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and its success in this first round on the Saudi NREP reflects the quality of its submissions and its competitiveness in both solar photovoltaic and wind technologies.
