A journey from spectacular 84.10 carat rough to extraordinary collection of D Flawless diamonds

July 26, 2020: Mouawad has revealed the journey of the incredible Mouawad Botswana Diamond, from spectacular rough crystal to extraordinary collection of six D Flawless diamonds.

Discovered deep within the Karowe mine in Botswana, a spectacular 84.10 carat type IIa D colour rough was unearthed as a true wonder of nature and acquired by Mouawad in late 2018.

Approximately three billion years old, type IIa diamonds are estimated to have formed at a depth of up to 600km below the earth’s surface and are highly sought after for their pure, nitrogen-free composition that gives them unequalled transparency.

Over a period of three months, Mouawad’s team of experts analysed the rough diamond before the decision was made to divide it into six distinctive pieces. Leveraging their vast expertise and well-honed skills, Mouawad’s master diamond cutters proceeded to craft a magnificent suite of six D Flawless diamonds, in varying shapes and sizes, with the following respective cuts and carat weights: 12.89 round brilliant cut, 9.60 round brilliant cut, 8.51 emerald cut, 5.66 emerald cut, 3.08 round brilliant cut, 2.08 emerald cut – individually beautiful while together making an exceptional ensemble befitting of the Mouawad name.

Fourth generation Co-guardians Fred, Alain and Pascal Mouawad commented, “It has been a thrilling journey from the moment of acquiring this exceptional rough crystal onward, watching it take on a new spectacular lease of life in its final form as a magnificent suite of six incredible diamonds in their own right.

The six Botswana diamonds join recent acquisitions, such as the impressive 51.03 carat D Flawless Dynasty diamond, and 54.21 carat Mouawad Dragon, the largest round brilliant vivid yellow diamond in the world, to take their place in the ever-growing Mouawad collection. This collection includes many of the world’s most exceptional diamonds, such as the 245.35 carat Jubilee Diamond, the 135.92 carat Queen of Holland diamond, the 69.42 carat Taylor Burton, and the largest cushion shaped D IF weighting 218.08 carat.
