Saudi Health Minister: Covid made us Stronger but keep a Look Out for Antimicrobial Resistance
Celebrated WHO's 75th anniversary by supporting the contingency fund
Riyadh: Saudi Minister of Health Fahd Al-Jalajil said on Wednesday, May 24th that the pandemic has made local health systems stronger and more resilient, speeding up digital transformation and proliferating virtual healthcare services.
This came during his speech before the 76th session of the General Assembly of the World Health Organization WHO in Geneva, Switzerland, in which the organization celebrated its 75th anniversary.
Al-Jalajil added that Saudi Arabia believes in applying the One Health approach to confront public health risks, the most important of which is the threat of antibiotic-resistant microbes, hoping that these efforts will contribute to combat this silent epidemic.
He added that Saudi Arabia supported the establishment of an international contingency fund, and appreciates efforts made by the WHO and member states to amend international health regulations, as well as the ongoing negotiations to draft a pandemic treaty, which aims to find additional legal tools to deal with future pandemics.
The WHO General Assembly session comes after the organization announced on May 5th that the Covid-19 epidemic is no longer a global health emergency.
