Samsung Concludes “Solve for Tomorrow” Competition, empowers Saudi Youth to Tackle Real-world Problems
The Samsung Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program employs STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills to prepare the next generation to address social challenges impacting local communities.
Riyadh – April 6, 2023: Samsung Electronics concluded its annual competition, 'Solve for Tomorrow,' in partnership with Riyadh Schools. The competition, running in the Kingdom for the first time, aims to challenge young minds to explore the role that STEM skills play in identifying and solving issues of critical concern in their local communities.
The education and innovation competition, which took place from 2nd Nov 2022 until 19th Jan 2023, engaged 14 to 18-year-old girls and boys at the school in active, hands-on learning activities—challenging them in three different areas: promoting national natural wealth and sustainable local tourism, preserving national identity and cultural heritage, and maintaining an overall healthy and active lifestyle.
Participating teams underwent several training sessions, including a design thinking workshop, to help them develop their ideas. Then the teams went through a filtering process, where only five out of 23 teams met the criteria of SFT and made it to the final round. In the final round, the five finalists pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, including Leo Yong-il Oh Samsung Online and Marketing Manager, Kyle Oakes, Riyadh Schools Rep, Amani Yaqoub, Riyadh Schools Rep, and Hani Thalji, an Expert Trainer.
The finalists were presented with participation certificates. In addition, the first winner received a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4; others received Galaxy Z Flip 4.
Hyung Bin Joo, the Managing Director of Samsung Saudi Arabia, said: 'We are delighted to deliver the program in partnership with Riyadh schools. At Samsung, we seek to empower the next generation to achieve their full potential. This aligns with the Kingdom's 2030 Vision and its objective to prepare the new Saudi generation for the future, and we are happy to be able to contribute to that.'
He added: 'With Solve for Tomorrow, we give the new generation of innovators a platform to learn new skills and explore their ideas and passions while making a difference in their communities.'
Abdulrahman bin Rashid Alghofaili, Riyadh Schools Director General, said: 'We are glad to have partnered with Samsung. Early exposure to STEM is critical for finding answers for the future. This collaboration will give young changemakers access to more resources and a platform to develop and share their ideas on a grander scale.'
Samsung Solve for Tomorrow launched globally in 2010 to encourage innovative thinking, creative problem-solving, and teamwork to address society's most pressing issues. Solve for Tomorrow has been so impactful that it has expanded into a prominent Global citizenship program for Samsung Electronics, now running in 33 countries worldwide and reaching over 2.1 million students worldwide.
